Extra Curricular Activities
St. Louis offers many extra curricular activities:
Computer Club:
Students in this
club create and learn many interesting computer based applications.
A newsletter entitled Classroom Happenings is published by this
club. Also HyperStudio projects and slide show presentations are
some of the extra curricular programs offered. Computer Club meets
on the last Wednesday of each month from 2:35-3:15 p.m.
Helping Hands:
An organization that involves 2nd
grade students meets once each month. The group comes together to make
a craft or art project. The finished craft is then given to various
places in our communiy. Some pf the places include:
-
Nursing Homes
-
local hospitals
-
children's hospitals
-
shelters.
Our focus
is to use our creativity and give completed crafts to those people who
may need a bit of cheer. Other projects go to community workers
in order to show our appreciation for all they do.
Builder's club:
The builder's club is associated
with the National Kiwanis Club. It's purpose is
-
To provide opportunities for working
together in service to school and community.
-
To develop leadership potential.
-
To foster the development of strong
moral character.
-
To encourage loyalty to school, community,
and nation.
This club is open to any interested
4-8th grade students.
-
We visit St. Joseph's Care Center
twice a month to play Bingo and make crafts with the residents
-
We help at the Stark County Humane
Society at least twice a year. During each visit our members walk
the dogs and give cats and kittens some "cuddle time".
-
Before Christmas and Easter we get
the church ready for these special liturgies by cleaning and polishing
all the woodwork
-
At our monthly meetings we night hear
a presentation from a local service organization or plan coming events.
-
Each year we hold a pinning ceremony
to officially induct members and recognize their service in the community
and in school
Storyteller Club:
Storyteller
Club is an after school activity held on the third Thursday of each month.
It is open to students in Grades One through Three.
Students
listen to a story read by the teacher. They then work on an art activity
related to the theme of the story. Recently we celebrated the
100th birthday of Dr. Seuss by listening to several fun Dr. Seuss Books,
eating snacks and making 3-D Cat In the Hat figures.
This is
an enjoyable experience in an informal setting. The purpose of the club
is to promote positive attitudes about reading.
Theater Club:
St. Louis Theatre Club is hosted
by a representative from the Canton Player’s Guild. The representative
does theatre instruction with the students. They learn how to apply
stage makeup, learn stage directions, practice how to speak lines
with expression, learn costume selection, make props for plays, perform
small skits, play games involving memorization, and finally perform a play.
Theatre Club meets for 3 six week sessions per year.
Choir:
Students in grades 4-8 meet after school once
a week . We perform at a Christmas program and other various events
throughout the year
Geography Bee:
This event is sponsored by the National Geographic
Society. Grades 4-8 participate in classroom bees. The top
two winners from each grade compete in the St. Louis Geography Bee.
The school winner takes a written test to determine eligibility in the
State Bee.
Yearbook:
Grade 8 is a part of the yearbook staff.
this involves the planning and completion of some pages of our yearbook.
Mrs. Sautters is the advisor for this and is one of the faculty members
who plans and completes the other pages.
Talent Show:
Students participate in the talent show on
a voluntary basis. The show is usually held in May and sometimes
a play is included.
Other Activities include
- Football
- Basketball
- Volleyball
- Track
- Cheerleading
