What are electronic portfolios?

Electronic portfolios are selective and purposeful collections of your work.  Portfolios focus on your reflections on your own work.  They are records of learning, growth, and change and they provide meaningful documentation of your abilities.  Electronic portfolios provide information to other students, your parents, teachers, and members of the community about what you have learned or are able to do.  They represent a learning history.  These electronic portfolios will include your best work from all of your classes.

The electronic portfolio will include varied media such as text, graphics, video and sound, going beyond just paper and pencil work.  After all, products on paper constitute only a small portion of what you will produce this year.   You will use PowerPoint to create this portfolio.

What should be included in your portfolio?

You should include the best samples of work from ALL of your classes.  For each sample, a reflection paragraph should accompany it.  You should have a title slide and a table of contents with links to all of your work.  You should also include a letter to the viewer.

Title Slide

The title slide should show your name, the year, and the teacher.  This slide might include a picture of video of you and any other information about you that you would like to share with the viewer.

Table of Contents

This slide shows the viewer the contents of the portfolio at a glance.  Buttons should be added to the slide to link the viewer to the desired information.  The viewer can choose what information he/she wants to see and in what order.

Information Slides

These slides will hold information (and student self-reflections) for chosen subject areas or topics.  Ideas for slides:

Letter to Viewer

You should write a letter to the viewer thanking them for looking at your portfolio and pointing out the portfolio’s highlights.
