National Park Card Deck

Level 2 -- Information Retrieval and Synthesis

Share your knowledge with us! Help us to make a deck of National Park Cards. The top card--the one seen on the initial screen--will tell the name of the park, show something about the park you selected, and identify your school as the creator of that information. The information you put together will be linked to that card.

Use your imagination about the creation of your park information. You could make a PowerPoint or a HyperStudio presentation, make drawings, make a video (if you live close by the park), make a commercial or a public service announcement for your park, or do something creative to highlight that park.

See a sample National Park Card!

How do we do it?

  1. Select the park about which you would like to make a demonstration. To find a complete listing of the United States National Parks, go to http://www.nps.gov/parklists/bynametemp.htm.
  2. Fill out the form below and e-mail it to PBS 45 & 49 in Kent, Ohio. This is so that there will be no duplications. You will receive an e-mail giving you the "go ahead."
  3. Create a cover card. This is a card that gives the name of the park, some artwork or picture that portrays the park, and the name of your school or your group.
  4. In some way, answer the following questions about the park:
    1. The name of the park
    2. The location (a map might be nice)
    3. The size of the park
    4. Things that make the park special. For example, Isle Royale is known for the moose that roam there.

You may want to include other things--like why you selected this park or the history of the park. Be creative!

Copyright is a serious issue. If you are using pictures from the Internet, you must send us written permission from the owner of the picture before we can put them on our Web site. You should also give a bibliographic reference for information used.

PBS 45 & 49 give you permission to use any of the pictures on our site in your program. The address is http://wneo.org/gasp/. The National Park System has also granted us permission to use any photo on their Web site that does not say "copyright" on it.

  1. When you have completed your cover card and the program that it will link to, send it to PBS 45 & 49, P.O. Box 5191, Kent, OH 44240-5191 or send an email to gasp@wneo.org. with your work sent as an attachment.
