The next day (10-3) I chose
the long way out of town US Rt. 6 toward Tonopah. The day started with a 15-mile
long climb to Montgomery Pass, just over the border into Nevada. From there it was 66
miles to Tonopah with no gas or food in between and water only at a rest stop about 10
miles before Tonopah. Lets just say I endured.
Nevada can best be described as ruggedly
beautiful (or beautifully rugged, if you prefer). Its also a little smoky right now,
thanks to forest fires in Northern California.
I stayed at a motel in Tonopah (planned
event) and sent home Part 9 of my Journal to Becky sometime after 1:00am local time.
