I met a couple from Switzerland, Andrew and Bridget, at the campground in Lee Vining the next morning (10-2). The have a great philosophy about bicycling – work awhile, save some money, then go bicycling again until the money runs out. They are currently into a 16-month trip that has taken them to the Mediterranean, Africa and the west coast of Canada and America.

I had a nice ride today – entered the Great Basin, which will be my "home" for the next week or so. I rode 51 miles to Benton, California, one of the most isolated places I’ve visited. It lies hard against the White Mountains, which include Boundary Peak the highest point in Nevada (13,140’) and White Mountain Peak (14,242’), one of the highest points in California. There are three ways out of town (Benton) – west to Lee Vining (51 miles), northeast to Tonopah, Nevada (81 miles) and southwest to Bishop (35 miles and the nearest gas station).

I stayed in a RV/Trailer Park for $5 which included a shower – I was very happy to find that place.
