The
following morning (5-11) I left Cooperstown heading south, then southwest
toward Binghamton. This was
another change in plans, but made good sense to someone (me) whos now
looking to get home as soon as possible.
Once I got about 20 miles south of Cooperstown (near Oneonta), then
I could follow the Susquehanna River nearly all the way to Binghamton.
Follow the river ride on a mostly level road get it?
The
plan worked well until I got to within about 10 miles of Binghamton.
Then my road (NY Rt. 7) merged with I-88 and cut through the valley
without leaving any room for a frontage road.
I had to ride on a little country road up and over a mountain to
reach Binghamton. This is not
what you want to have happen toward the end of an 80-mile day.
