The next day (3-27) was pretty short and uneventful.
The thunderstorms did come in the middle of the night, and
dark clouds were still hanging around this morning, so I delayed
my start until about 10:30. I decided to go only as far as Crossville today (about 50
miles) instead of trying to cut four days to three between Cave
City and Smoky Mountains National Park.
My legs thanked me profusely.
I stopped at the Post Office in Crossville and picked
up my new tent pole. The
nice folks at Kelty had mailed it there as a no-charge warranty
replacement after I had called them a week ago.
They had asked only that I return the broken one if
possible, so I put it in the same box that the new one was shipped
in and mailed it back to them.
Today was mostly uphill from Livingston to Monterey,
then kind of up and down the rest of the way to Crossville.
I am definitely now on the Cumberland Plateau, but even
higher mountains are looming just east of town.
