March 26, 2000

This morning (3-26) I kept looking in my (helmet-mounted) rear view mirror for Gene, but of course couldn’t see him.  With each mile, he was further behind.  We parted company this morning in Cave City, Kentucky where he was to be picked-up by his friend Al from Orrville.  I will now go on alone for another two months.

I found the mountains again today shortly after crossing back into Tennessee.  I crossed the Cumberland River, and soon started uphill.  By the time I reached the town of Livingston, I had come a fair way up onto the Cumberland Plateau.  I was also pretty darned tired as I had ridden about 80 miles on the day, much of it uphill.  Since the forecast called for thunderstorms overnight, I decided to stay in a motel.
