We awoke the
following morning (3-20) to find that the nasty weather had passed during the night. There were still a few clouds around, but not of
the serious variety. We headed off toward
Fort Oglethorpe, Georgia, just seven miles south of Chattanooga. We traveled up and down for awhile in the last
vestiges of mountains, then found a great mile-long downhill that took us out of the
mountains and into the hills. |
Fort Oglethorpe is on the edge of the
Chickamauga
& Chattanooga National Military Park. We
will visit there tomorrow morning before again heading north toward Nashville and Mammoth
Cave National Park.
The bicycle problem of the day
belonged to Gene as the sidewall of his new front tire blew out near Dalton. We replaced it with my spare and limped into Fort
Ogelthorpe where he got a new one, hopefully of better quality than the last one (which
lasted only about 300 miles). |
