March 2, 2000

I left Florida City the following morning (3-2) and rode out and around Miami as far away from the city as I could get by bicycle without getting into the water of the Everglades.  Sorry, Miami, for the slight, but it’s your reputation that caused me to do so.  Besides, Mom told me not to go anywhere near Miami.

I spent about half the day in undeveloped areas along Rt. 979 and about half riding through the western suburbs of Miami and Ft. Lauderdale.  The city part wasn’t bad at all – mostly wide streets with not too much traffic.

I’m spending the night in a motel (first time in about two weeks) in Pompano Beach so I can finish Part 19 of the Journal and e-mail it home.
