March 16, 2000

The next morning (3-16), we found a bike shop only about a half mile from the motel, so headed over there to get Gene a new tire before we hit the road.  We were greeted by rain, but it was no surprise since we had watched the Weather Channel the night before.  The bike shop took care of Gene and we headed for Anderson in a steady rain.  We planned this to be a short day because of yesterday’s long day, and it was a good thing as it rained all day.

We also decided early on that this would be another motel night.  By the time we got near Anderson, we were wet and cold.  We had rain-suits, so did not really get wet from the rain, but rather from perspiration from riding up so many _ _ _ _ hills in a hot rain-suit.  Guess what – all of the motels in Anderson were on the north side of town too – what is this, some kind of quirky state law or something?

A lot of my stuff was wet including my sleeping bag and tent.  Since it was laundry night anyway, I decided to wash my sleeping bag.   I think it came out okay, but there are lumpy parts that may be wads of still wet goose down.  I guess I’ll find out for sure next time I have to camp-out.  I bought a box of “tall kitchen bags” that I’m going to put my camping stuff in (for traveling) next time it rains during the day.
