With
my mind now firmly set, I departed Angleton the next morning (1-25) for
Surfside Beach, Follets Island and Galveston Island.
Upon reaching Surfside Beach, I can now claim to have been to the
North Coast (Lake Superior), the West Coast (Pacific Ocean at several
locations) and the South Coast (Gulf of Mexico) during this journey. However, since I havent been to the East Coast, I still
have not yet ridden across the country, so Ill just have to keep
peddling a little longer.

The
ocean and the beaches here are much different than those on the
West Coast. The waves
are much smaller (although that might change during hurricane
season) and the water is a silty gray color as opposed to
the emerald green of the Pacific.
Also, there isnt any kelp on the Gulf beaches, but there
is a large amount (and variety) of seashells, whereas I found
virtually none on the Pacific beaches. |
It
was much cooler today (high in the upper 50s), but sunny so not at all
unpleasant. I did get a peek
at the weather forecast, however, and it looks like cooler weather and
possibly rain over the next few days.
I
stayed the night at another State Park Campground (Galveston
Island) just 10 miles southwest of the city of Galveston.
It was a nice campground, amid nice homes and summer rental
properties (all on stilts).

I
saw a lot of For Sale signs on undeveloped beachfront
property and was wondering early in the day what it cost to live
next to the beach.
Later, I came across a sign that gave me the answer
beachfront property in 100 widths Starting at $150,000.
No, that didnt include the house. Something tells me
that the cost of houses isnt any bargain either.
