The next morning (2-5) I headed south toward Lake Village (about 85 miles) and Aaron headed north toward his grandparent’s home in Cherokee Village.  South of Pine Bluff the land was flat – part of the historic Mississippi River floodplain, I suspect.  I say historic because mankind got tired of the floods at some point and built levees along most of the length of the Mississippi.  As I looked at the rich farmland rolling by (no, I guess I was rolling by), I wondered how long it will take to deplete the soil now that it doesn’t get replenished by the periodic floods.  Much if not most of the farmland here is devoted to cotton.  I say that based on the number of cotton warehouses I passed.
