August 30, 1999

The next day (8-30) was cool and dreary again. I avoided the most scenic stretch of road (the Three Capes route) as my map said some of the road was gravel and it was a longer route (I was going pretty far that day anyway). Lastly, I could see low hanging clouds over the capes when I got to the "capes" road at Tillamook. Later I talked with a couple from Seattle (Michael and Karen) and they said the view from the capes had been real nice, but that they had gotten into some heavy rain.

I did stop for lunch at the famous (regionally, at least) Tillamook Cheese Factory, where I got some free samples and bought a Ham & Cheese sandwich. Just the other side of the street from the cheese factory, I saw another sign regarding "free samples." I don’t think I want any!

I made it to Lincoln City (campground destination) without getting too wet, and stopped at McDonalds for my daily milkshake. Big mistake. It started raining ten minutes later, then really poured a few minutes after that when I was already back on my bike for the last mile of the day’s journey. A lot of stuff got wet.
