The next day (8-29) started out
rainy and never got much better. It was good timing, however, as I spent most of the day
too far from the ocean to see it, anyway. I passed through Oswald West State Park,
and found a tribute to him at a very nice ocean overlook. It read something much like
this: "Oswald West Governor of Oregon 1911 1915. By his foresight,
nearly 400 miles of ocean shore was set aside for public use." Almost the entire
ocean shore in Oregon is still preserved for use by the public. Way to go, Oswald!
Just before the end of my day, I got another nice view from a
500 overlook just north of Manzanita and my campground at Nehalem.
