The next day (8-17) was departure day, but
I didnt get off to a fast start. First of all I slept in a bit after being up so
late, then I had a lot of packing to do and trips to make to the bank and post office.
Finally, sometime after noon, I asked Ed if he wouldnt mind driving me to the ferry
so that I could avoid rush hour traffic. Of course he didnt mind, and Ed and Martha
both drove me to the ferry dock at Edmonds where we said goodbye for this particular
visit.
From there, I had a 30 minute ferry ride to
Kingston while I enjoyed the beauty of Puget Sound
and took in the sights of snow-covered (not snow-capped) Mt. Baker to
the North and Mt.
Rainier to the South. From there, I rode about 30 miles to the town of Blyn where I
stayed the night at a RV Park. Along the way I met two bicyclists from Greece who had
started their journey in Anchorage, Alaska and were heading for San Francisco. They were
already planning to spend the night somewhere else, but we were all heading the same way,
so I expected to see them again.
