The next day (4-4) the weather was clearer, but a
front came through in the morning and it got significantly
colder. The
actual temperature was in the low 40s this afternoon and
the severe wind made it feel like it was in the teens.
The wind was mostly out of the northwest and made
progress difficult to say the least.
There was also a detour up ahead which would force
me off the Parkway for about 20 miles.
I got off earlier (for lunch) and just didnt
bother to get back on. Instead, I rode north to West Jefferson, crossing the New
River on the way. I
found a motel there and just quit for the day.
Im tired and Im disappointed at not being
able to see anything along the Parkway.
Its days like this that make me think I wont
be too sorry to see the end of this journey.

I spent part of the afternoon sorting through all of
my stuff and finding a few things to throw away. It always makes me feel better to do this, and I needed a
little boost today.
I spent part of the evening revisited my schedule for
the next few days. Since
I only went about 30 miles today, Im going to have to do some
serious pedaling over the next week or so to make it up. |
