Dingman's Falls

It was raining again the next morning (4-23), but I couldn’t fall any further behind schedule, so I headed off through the Delaware Water Gap NRA with a plan to ride as far as Middletown, NY (about 65 miles).

I also awoke with a sore throat, so I went to the store and bought some Dayquil and Nyquil.  I think I have a cold.  If I don’t write anything tomorrow, consider that I died from pneumonia.

It rained off and on most of the day, but was tolerable because I was in the midst of a lot of nice scenery.  When I got to Dingman’s Falls, it finally occurred to me why it’s been raining so much – Mother Nature wanted me to see her waterfalls in all their glory.  Well thanks, “Mom,” they were really beautiful, especially Silver Thread Falls and Dingman’s Falls.

That caused me to think of other good things about riding in the cold rain:

·        Dogs don’t bother to chase me

·        My ice tea stays real cold

·        I can drink rain water right off my moustache

·        I didn’t waste the $44 I spent on Gortex socks

·        April showers will bring May flowers to eastern Pennsylvania (but why should I care – I won’t be here anyway)

·        Hydroplaning saves wear and tear on my tires

·        People either feel sorry for me or think I’m really stupid, but they will remember me

Near the north end of the Water Gap, I crossed the Delaware River and rode the final few miles on the New Jersey side.  I then crossed the border into New York, rode up a four-mile long hill and cruised into Middletown where it was a balmy 43 degrees.
