April 22, 2000

Morning (4-22) brought more cold and gloom, and the prospect of more rain later in the day.  I had a choice of going just 32 miles to Stroudsburg or about 73 miles to Port Jervis, New York.  There wasn’t anything in between except about 35 miles of the Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area which I didn’t want to hurry through anyway.

It was an easy decision.  I went to the laundromat, checked-out of the Best Western about noon and rode to Stroudsburg.  That put me a day behind schedule, but it was just the best I could do today.  The only good news was that it didn’t start raining until after I reached Stroudburg.

Just before Stroudsburg, I entered the southern end of the Delaware Water Gap.  It’s quite a scenic area where the Delaware River has cut its way through the mountains of eastern Pennsylvania and western New Jersey.
