Nick had to get all the way back to Marietta the next
evening (4-17) so we all got up early and headed our separate ways.
I rode into Gettysburg for breakfast, then headed
south toward Silver Spring, Maryland (near Washington D.C.) to see some
long-time family friends who just happen to be two of the nicest people
Ive ever met. They are the
Bells Martin and Martha who are the kind of people that most
anyone would ride a bike 70 miles in the rain just to see.
They were in San Diego a few days ago when I was originally
supposed to be there (until I adjusted my schedule to meet Sarah in
Gettysburg on Sunday), but had sent me an e-mail telling me to come anyway
and stay at their house for a couple of days.
So I rode my bike 70 miles in the rain to see them the day after
they got back. It was well
worth it

It really did rain almost the entire day.
Once, I got excited when I read a sign that said,
Welcome to Sunshine, but it just turned out to be the name
of a town. Everything
was pretty well soaked by the time I got to Silver Spring, but
Martin put a fire in the wood-burning stove and by morning even my
shoes were dry.

After dinner, they invited their next-door neighbors
over and we exchanged adventure stories about Chads canoe trip down the
Yukon River (Alaska) and my bike journey.
