April 15, 2000

From Hagerstown, MD (4-15), I rode through Waynesboro, PA and on to the town, oops I mean the borough, of Gettysburg.  Pennsylvania seems to have places called “cities,” “villages” and “boroughs,” but no “towns.”  In general, the boroughs seem to be larger than the villages and smaller than the cities, but I don’t have a clear explanation that it’s simply based on population.  Well, anyway, I made it to Gettysburg.

On the way into the borough, I stopped at a KOA Kampground where I had made a reservation fP4160029.jpg (55350 bytes)or a two-room Kamping Kabin (sorry spellchecker, but it’s not my fault) for a couple of nights.  My daughter Sarah and her friend Nick Sargent from Marietta are coming over to spend part of the weekend with me, and I didn’t want for all of us to have to camp in the rain (forecast) in tents.  I dropped my stuff off at the cabin and headed for the National Military Park Visitor Center where I was to meet Sarah and Nick.

The planned meeting time of “between 4:00 and 5:00pm” came and went and the Visitor Center closed at 5:00, so I checked my cell phone for a message and found one from Sarah that said they were going to be late.  She didn’t say how late and it was looking like it might rain, so I called her cell phone and left a message, then headed back (about 5 miles) to the KOA.  I finally got through to her from the campground about 6:00 when they were in downborough Gettysburg, and they showed up at the campground ten minutes later.

Before I forget to say it, I want to mention how nice and how clean the Kamping Kabin was – it was a great place to stay.
