Research | Ria's Folly | Hotlist Making Online Games"...don't use force in training the children in the subjects, but rather games." Plato, The Republic (421 BC)
As a classroom teacher, I often used games as the tool to teach the concepts I thought were important. They were fun, the kids stayed on-task and tests showed that the students actually learned the content. I retired from teaching and became an Educational Content Producer at PBS 45 & 49. After reading research about the value of video games, I thought I'd try my hand at creating one, an episode I call Ria's Folly. I worked with Cathy Adler, a really creative teacher at Brown Middle School in Ravenna. This Web page, and the soon to be created game, Antarctica: The Game are the results.
