Shirley Temple Black

Actor and Diplomat

Shirley Temple was born in 1928 in California. When she was 3 she took tap dancing lessons and was asked to have a small acting part in a movie. 

She did such a good job that she was in several more.

     When she was 6 years old she became a movie star.

She was known of her curls, singing, and dancing.

        Shirley got a special award for acting in 1934.

        She was given an award for raising everyone’s spirits during the depression.  The depression was a period of time when many Americans did not have jobs.  People would watch Shirley’s movies to forget about their problems.

        Shirley Temple was in 69 movies and television shows before she retired when she was 22 years old.  She then got married and started a career in politics.  Her first job was with the United Nations.  She then worked for the United States in Africa.  One job she had was to make sure events at the White House ran smoothly.

        Shirley Temple spent her childhood making millions of Americans smile with her movies.  She spent her adult life serving the United State’s government.
