Introduction

Why do you set off fireworks on the 4th of July?  Who made the Statue of Liberty?  Why does the flag have red and white stripes?  The United States of America has a strong basis in Symbols.  Many things we take for granted had to have started somewhere.  Everything came from somewhere and was made by someone, at sometime.   Portfolios and works of art will be displayed during our annual art show.

The Task

You will also discover why certain colors and patterns are used.  America is strong because of her beliefs; discover how these beliefs made her strong.

Goal:  Create portfolio describing:

1.  Type written sheets

a.  Origins,

b.  Creators

c.  Donators

d.  Meaning of our symbol

2.  Create a piece of Art Sculpture showing one symbol

3.  Add a coloring page or creative drawing for each item

·        Include a summary of what you will have accomplished when the WebQuest is complete.

·        Explain how you could do further study on this topic.  This could be in the form of rhetorical questions to the students.

·        Ask the students to consider what new questions were generated when trying to solve the original task.

  Credits and References

·        Have the students list the sources they used. This includes books, music, pictures, and text that the student used.

·        Have the students thank people who helped them.
