Introduction

It is believed that by the year 2030 a comet will destroy the earth. A group of scientists have developed a space station that will be able to accommodate the entire population of the earth.

The Task

·        Your problem, is to create environments similar to those here on earth. You have been chosen to be part of a team that will ensure that this space station can sustain all forms of life.:

·         A final presentation will be given by your panel of scientists, to the class (which represents the United Nations). The United Nations will vote after all presentations have been made, on which plan will be implemented.

The Process

1.You should research the internet and list information on the needs of living things, for example- (different ways that an organism survives, breaths, makes energy, moves, responds, grows and adapts.) Place all the information in your Science journal.

2. You will create a poster showing the basic needs of living organisms.

3. Your team will present a plan showing  your space station environment   and how it meets the needs of living organisms.

Resources

One place that you might look  for information about  living things:

Evaluation

For a clear understanding of the grading criteria which will be used to evaluate your work, go to the following web sight:

Conclusion

·        Congratulations!. You have completed your task. You may have saved the world. You have learned that living things depend on both living and non-living parts of their environment.  You have discovered that certain needs must be met for an organism to survive.

Next we will explore what these living things are made of.

  Credits and References
