Mount Rushmore

Mount Rushmore is located in the Black Hills of South Dakota.  This mountain of granite was carved with the heads of four famous Americans; George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Abraham Lincoln and Theodore Roosevelt.  It was built to honor the history and greatness of America.           It took a sculptor named Gutzon Borglum and his men 17 years to carve the faces into the mountain.  It was finished in 1941.

Stats: ·        Each face measures 60 ft. from the chin to the top of the head. ·        The presidents’ noses are 20 ft. long. ·        The presidents’ mouths are 18 feet wide. ·        The eyes are 11 feet across. ·        The mole on Lincoln’s face is 16 inches across. ·        Each head is as tall as a six-story building. ·        If the carvings were real, each man would stand 465 feet tall
