The Alamo

          The Alamo was a fort located

in San Antonio, Texas.  In 1836 the

American settlers of Texas were

fighting the Mexican army in Texas. 

Mexico wanted Texas to be part of

Mexico and the American settlers

wanted Texas to be part of the

United States.

 

          Davy Crockett, James Bowie and 181 other Americans were in the Alamo fighting over 5,000 Mexican soldiers.  At the end of the battle all of the Americans had been killed.  This famous battle lead to more fighting with Mexico.  Americans finally won independence for Texas 3 months later.
