Who’s your favorite author?

A study of Authors of Young Adults’ Books

Introduction

       Have I got a GREAT language arts project for you !!  Who can come up with the most creative presentation promoting his/her favorite young adult author!!  A sweet prize awaits the winner of the best presentation decided by your classmates!!

The Task

  Please note:  I will give you guidelines during class to help you complete your project.  I will give you a deadline when project is due. 

 

GOAL: You will earn 5 points for each section completed …. while improving your oral speaking skills and creative writing skills.

The Process

            There is a list of websites you can use in The Resources to locate authors of young adults if you do not have a favorite.  You will need to use a minimum of 3 websites to compile your project. Extra points will be given for great sites of authors of young adults’ books. A minimum of two sources of printed materials must be used including the authors’ books.

            You will use your creative talents to write a paper persuading your classmates to vote your author as FAVORITE AUTHOR OF YOUNG ADULTS. 

Please include a list of all resources used. You will give an oral talk about your author.  You may dress, speak, etc. as your author.

The Resources

The following websites can be used in choosing an author of young adults if you do not have a favorite:

            You will also use a minimum of 2 printed materials.  You may already own one or more books.  Don’t forget to visit the Girard Library online.

Goal:  Your goals  will be to learn how to use valid websites and printed material for your project….while improving skills in word processing, oral speaking,  and research.

Evaluation

A 20 point rubric has been designed for the following areas:

Organization, content knowledge, visuals, mechanics, and delivery

An electronic portfolio of your paper and book jacket will be kept on your personal disk.  Hyperstudio may be used to design your book jacket.  Any of our 3 word-processing programs can be used to complete your paper. 

Conclusion

You will have learned a creative way to research authors of young adults’ books. I can’t wait to see and hear the completed projects!!  I know you are so talented and I’m excited to have your share this with your classmates!! Who will win??
