Introduction
LIGHTS – CAMERA – ACTION !

Does it take a producer to create a movie? Can only an artist  create a collage?  No, Mrs. Ford’s wonderful students can do both!

The Task
The time has come for you to create a clever production that will help other fifth graders understand the concepts we’ve covered in the first part of our color, light and sound unit.

Your production will be an artistic collage in which you will apply new vocabulary learned.  Also, you’ll be researching one or two new concepts about color, light and sound from resources provided in our classroom.  So, here we go…LIGHTS-COLOR-SOUND!

The Process

  1. Highlight in your science journal all the new color, light and sound vocabulary words we’ve covered.
  2. Select a production topic you might see in a movie, TV program or in your daily life.  Then create a collage of pictures in this scene that describe how the new unit concepts relate.

Production Topics could include:

·       A Ballroom Dance

·       Western Scene

·       Scene from Rugrats or even the Grinch X-mas movie

·       Day at the Beach (Click Here Sample Project)

Now select a book from our science resource center or click on one of the web sights under the resource guide provided.  Find one or more new color, light, and/or sound concepts to add to your collage.
  1.  Take all of these unit vocabulary words and concepts and create a collage on the large piece of white paper provided.

You may illustrate your picture using a variety of art supplies or even recycled materials – BE CREATIVE!

With a fine black marker number each vocabulary word in your collage.  Then on a separate sheet of notebook paper or on your word processor tell how your vocabulary words are represented in your collage.

  1. Finally, be prepared to share your production with your teacher and classmates on the day your project is assigned.
