Introduction

Have you ever wondered what it would be like to travel outside of your horizons and explore the earth’s various climates, animals, vegetation, and distinctive land features?  Well now you can.  Because of your dynamic personality and your quest for knowledge, you have been selected to travel around the world to a BIOME of your choice.

The Task

To defer the trip’s enormous expense, we will be eliminating the round trip airline ticket and the luxurious room accommodations.  Also, free meal tickets to exquisite restaurants and additional spending money for fabulous souvenirs have been disregarded.  Instead, you will be given the task of traveling around the world, visiting one of the 7 major biomes, via the Internet.  You will become an expert on the particular biome of your choice.  Because of your expertise, competitive marketing and advertising agencies have asked you to create a travel brochure and to become a tour guide for your newly discovered location.   First you must go through the process of presenting your brochure and tour to your classmates.

The Process

1.  Conduct research on all of the 7 major biomes.

2.      Choose a biome that most interests you.

3.      Respond to the following questions in the form of an outline.

Ø      What is your biome’s climate like? (Be sure to include average temperature and precipitation.)

Ø      What types of animals can be found?

Ø      Where on the earth are these biomes located?

Ø      What types of plants will you find?

Ø      Are there any environmental concerns?  If so, list them.

Ø      What other interesting facts did you discover?

4.      Create a brochure using the above information.  Your brochure must be informative, colorful, and well organized.  Be sure to include a variety of pictures relevant to your particular biome.

5.      Recreate an atmosphere of the biome so as to present it to your class. You may want to do this in the form of a diarama, posters, maps, etc.  Be creative in your presentation. There is no time limit for your “tour”.  However, you must have visuals, and you must include all of the information discovered in answering the questions listed above.

6.      Scroll down to discover popular web sites and the grading scale.
