Introduction

Animals are divided into 2 major categories, vertebrates and invertebrates. Vertebrates are animals with backbones. There are five classifications of vertebrates.  They are amphibians, birds, fish, mammals and reptiles. Our task is to create a vertebrate zoo which includes animals from each of the classifications. What animals would you include?  What type of habitat would you design for the animal?

Task

*You will decide who in the group will research the animal for each classification to go into the vertebrate zoo.

*You will get the forms needed to record your research from your teacher.

*You will research the classification of your chosen animal.

*You will research the needs of the animal, its habitat and food sources by selecting and visiting internet sites to gather information on the animal you choose.

*You will record your information on the research forms you get from your teacher.

*You will find and print a graphic of your chosen animal.

*You will create a "zoo page" for each animal using the sample page you get from your teacher.

Conclusion

After gathering information on the five classifications of vertebrates, and animals in those categories, were you able to correctly identify the characteristics of each classification?  Could you identify what classification different animals belong in?

Can you identify the basic needs of these animals and how they are provided either by man or nature?
