Introduction

What's the weather like today?  What will the weather be like tomorrow?  You will use what you have learned about temperature, wind, high and low pressure, precipitation, and clouds to accurately use different types of weather maps to forecast weather.

The Task

  You have been hired to forecast the weather in Springfield for a local television station.  It is up to you to inform the citizens of their upcoming weather.

The Process

  1. Using a variety of weather map sites, you and your group will build a forecast for tomorrow's weather in our area. Use what you know about weather and the following weather images to make your predictions.

  2. Write a weather forecast for our region on the sheet provide.

  3. Students will present the forecast with their group to the rest of the class.

Evaluation

 

            Groups will be given points in the following areas during their presentation:

  Group work                            10 points

                      ( How well did your group work together on all parts of activity?)

Reasoning for forecast               20 points

(The group must explain why you forecasted the weather the way you did)

Completion of forecast sheet   
20 points

                         (Each group must complete the forecast sheet)

 

In the presentation, students must:

5.     Explain the current weather of Akron, OH

6.     Give your forecast of Akron, OH

7.     Explain why you think the weather be like you forecast.

8.     Present to the class your forecast sheet.

                     

Conclusion

By completing this activity, students have used prior knowledge of weather to successfully forecast weather in their community.

After the groups have completed each section of the activity, you may check to see if your forecast was similar to that of professional meteorologists by clicking on the following webpage. (Remember to look at tomorrow’s forecast)
