How to Import Microsoft Entourage and Outlook Express Address Books into Apple's Address Book application

Excerpted from MacAddict, February 2003

To transfer your contacts from Entourage:

  1. Open Entourage Address Book window.
  2. Choose Select All from Entourage Edit menu.
  3. Drag all your contacts to a folder.
  4. Select all the Cards from this folder and drag them into Apple Address Book's Name or Group tab window.

All your contacts will now appear in Address Book. You can use the same procedure to transfer contacts from Outlook Express. As MacAddict, says, "Isn't drag & drop great?"

Scrapbookers

Want permanent photographs from your digital camera? Most digital camera users rely on their own printers but the cost of a good printer, archival inks and paper add up quickly. The alternative is to take your memory medium, flash card, memory stick, Scandisk to a film service and print out a film copy for 29-39 cents per 4 X 6. But wait, it gets even better! Save Photoshop enhanced creations as JPEG files and drag the folder containing the images onto the memory device that is mounted on your desktop (you may have to place your memory device in a card reader if memory device in camera does not show up on the desktop). These can also be opened and printed at the photo service and in larger sizes.

Classic Tricks of the Trade

Fire up Classic or OS 9 and launch the Exporter program that came with Print Shop Deluxe. Select your graphics from a library and export as EPSF for use in Word and PowerPoint. The exported file will have a transparent background and can be resized. To use the graphics on a Web page export as PICT or EPSF and convert to a JPEG or GIF file format (recommend GIF for color line art).

Faster Than a Speeding Bullet

To create a fast loading Web Page backdrop:

  1. Open graphic application
  2. Select color
  3. Set size to one pixel by one pixel
  4. Save as GIF file

In Web design program:

  1. Modify background image
  2. Set length and width of graphic to fit page size
  3. Test drive in browser.
