Making a Public Service Announcement

Making a Commercial

Commercials are attempts by producers to encourage you to buy their products.

Public service announcements are commercials that sell ideas instead of products. A public service announcement should attempt to convince people of a particular idea.

Steps in creating commercials or public service announcements:

1.         Decide on the specific message of your commercial or announcement.

2.         Decide what audience you will be targeting.

3.         Choose the idea or story of your commercial or announcement--the way you willtell the audience your message.

4.         Decide exactly what the viewer will see and hear.

zoom-going from a wide angle shot to a telephoto shot or from a   telephoto shot to a wide angle shot.

high angle--shot in which the camera is above the object or person, looking down on it.

low angle--shot in which the camera is below the person or object, looking up at it.

side angle--shot in which the person is seen from a side-view.

  1. Storyboard your commercial or public service announcement. Draw a rough sketch of each shot. Write down what you will say when you are shooting.
