Data Project Requirements

Selecting a Topic:

  1. Design a survey. Ask about some "like" or preference. Be sure that you have two or three groups so that you can make comparisons.
  2. Design an experiment. Make up an "event" on which to test people. For example, how far can you blow a paper clip, or what is your estimate of a certain distance.

Selecting Your Sample:

Your goal is that every person gets an equal opportunity of being chosen. Try to select different target groups so that you can make comparisons--sixth grade, seventh grade, and eighth grade.

Test Your Idea

You Must Have in Your Project:

PAGE 1--Your cover must include the name of your study and the names of the group with whom you are working. You should include some type of artwork that is representative of your study.

PAGE 2--Write the question you are trying to answer.

PAGE 3--Tell how you selected your sample and what exactly you did on your survey or experiment.

PAGE 4-5-6 OR MORE--You must have at least three graphs. Each graph must have the axes labeled and have a title. There must be an explanation for each graph specifying what it is telling you. You will get bonus points if you include extra graphs.

PAGES ???--Include all statistics you have found--including mean, median, mode, range, minimum, and maximum--if they are appropriate.

FINAL PAGE--Conclusion

    1. List any findings or conclusions that you made from the study. In other words--What is the answer to the question you posed on Page 2.
    2. Tell what you would have done differently if you were doing the study over again.
    3. Tell what else could be done with this study.
